    An excellent jazz concert featuring two bands was presented at Manchester High School. The school's Jazz Band led off with an impressive performance (more details at the MHS Jazz Band gallery). After being introduced by Keith Berry, MHS Jazz Band Director, the Jeff Holmes Big Band came on stage and proceeded to electrify the audience with an outstanding rendition of a number of tunes arranged and compose by its leader. Holmes, a professor at UMASS Amherst with a lengthy career in performing, arranging and composing, assembled a band composed of extremely talented musicians. The Band consists ot Jeff Holmes,trumpet, flugelhorn, composer / arranger; Bruce Diehl, Bruce Kraskin, Felipe Salles, Frank Newton, and Matt Schumer,saxophones, all of whom doubled or tripled on saxes, or clarinet,or flute ; Don Clough, Alex L Lee Clark, Pete Grimaldi and Doug Olsen, trumpets and flugelhorns; Eric Schedin. Dan Hendrix and Bill Carr, trombones; Bob Ferrier, guitars; Jeff Dostal, basses; Jon Mele, drums, and Tim Harrington,congas / percussion. The tunes that were played consisted of originals composed and arranged by Holmes and many standards with Holmes arrangements. Every band member was given opportunity to solo and performed with the complete enjoyment of the audience.
